So after reading all about the aesthetic changes we’ve made along with our mission, purpose, vision, and values for the company, you may be wondering how this will affect you and what to expect from us going forward.
Long story short:
You should expect the same level of quality service from us in the store, but we’ll be changing up the content type of the blog and posting more regularly.
Long story long:
Our decision to shift the focus of the business from providing analog writing supplies that help bring forth creativity to helping to bring forth creativity while being a resource the analog writing supplies you may need sounds like a fairly minor change, but it has some pretty great implications.
Our primary focus is no longer to sell products but to make you a better writer. Yes, we keep the lights on by selling stuff from our store, but we believe that if we follow our passion and help others to do the same, the money will be there when we need it.
Our blog and community interaction is no longer going to be all about products, sales, or content created to push sales (be it directly or indirectly.) Instead, we’re going to present posts intended to help you improve your writing skills and gain a better understanding of the writing industry, with a long terms goal of helping you get your work in front of the eyes of readers.
When we began the process of renewing the focus, plan, and drive of the business, we started with the name. Whether we knew it or not, by naming the business “The Zeller Writing Company” we had our focus from the very beginning. We weren’t “The Zeller Notebook Company” or “…Pencil Company” or “…Pen Company” or even “The Zeller Creativity Company”. We are “The Zeller Writing Company” because our focus is on writing – the act of – and not the products that help you do so.
Sure, we’ll post some product reviews every now and then and help get you all of the information you’d like on the products we carry, but first and foremost, we want to work to help you become better and using those products for their intended purpose – getting your thoughts onto paper.
So What Does It All Mean?
We hope to turn InkOnHand.com into an outstanding resource for writers and enthusiasts looking for tips, inspiration, information, and opportunities to not only improve their craft, but to have their work featured in front of readers worldwide. We’ll post regularly about a variety of topics related to the art of writing and the writing industry as a whole, including: interviews with industry experts, tips to help hone your skills, prompts and challenges to help spark your creativity, reviews of products for your workflow, industry news to keep you in the loop, and much more.
Who’s Going to be Creating The Content?
For the most part, I will be (Aaron Zeller,) but I’ll also be opening the site up to guest bloggers and, as mentioned in the paragraph above, we’ll be talking with and interviewing industry experts including publishers, editors, agents, and authors to provide you new and exciting information, tips, and perspectives. So, even though I’ll be creating most of the posts, not all of the information will be coming from me.
While I do write regularly and am finishing up a degree in English and creative writing, I whole-heartedly accept that there’s a lot that I don’t know (and probably never will) about the art of writing and the writing industry and so will be bringing in those with more knowledge and different ideas to give you the best value for the time you spend here.
What’s Next?
Very soon, you’ll start to see us posting content all about writing, how to improve your craft, and about the writing industry. We’ll also be adding some new products to the store, restocking much of what we’re low or out-of-stock on, and creating some more thorough copy for all of the products along with their features and technical specifications. While we won’t be reviewing each and every product that we carry, we’ll do our best to make sure that all of the product pages are as thorough as possible to help you make the best purchasing decisions.
So that wraps up the final post of our three part series on the latest evolution of The Zeller Writing Company. As you can tell, there’s a lot happening and we’re completely excited for the road ahead.
Cheers to putting it all on the line to follow your passion.
Aaron Zeller
P.S. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on our transition. Good or bad, we’d love get a conversation going on how we can better serve all of you!
Love it!
